The Show and Tell evening was great. I always enjoy talking in public and it was a real challenge this time as I had only 30 seconds to speak about each slide. Great adrenaline from squeezing in all that info.
Heres some info on the Show and Tell: The Visual Artists Ireland 'Show and Tell Evening', provides artists with the opportunity to give a presentation on their practice in an informal setting where they can network and meet people with similar ideas and interests. The fifth VAI Show and Tell evening took place on the 12th of September at the 126 Gallery, Galway. The presenters included Ceara Conway (www.cearaconway.com), Nuala Ní Fhlathúin (http://nuaealain.wordpress.com/), Richard Forrest (www.richardforrest.info), Ruby Wallis (www.rubywallis.com), Joyce Little, Tom Meskell (www.tommeskell.com) and Una Spain (www.unaspain.com). Organised by VAI, Membership Officer, Adrian Colwell. — at 126, Artist-run Gallery Heres some video documentation of the light based pieces from my second solo show 'Sensorium' which was exhibited throughout June in Soma Contemporary Waterford. After much enjoyable work with Google Sketch-up I feel like I need a more flexible and advanced design platform. Rhino 3d is an industry standard so I shall play around with it and see it its good. This defiantly seems like a more complex and rewarding program. This program is often used to design models for 3d printing. I have previously used a 3d printer for a piece in my degree show and also for an exhibition 'The Reading Room' which took place in the Crawford Gallery
This Thursday the 12t I will be presenting as part of Visual Artists Ireland 'Show & Tell'. This series of short presentations shall take place in the 126 Gallery, Galway.
This is a statement I submitted as part of a recent proposal:
Forrest seeks to explore some of the cultural, technological and environmental influences that shape our reality. He explores information systems such as the brain and computer. He is concerned with discovering and manipulating the tools these systems use to interpret their environments. In an attempt to understand this new information, his work often implements ideas and methodologies from fields such as technology, science, mathematics and philosophy. The work takes many forms and mediums and is often exhibited as an overall installation. Depending on the line of inquiry, the medium is dictated by the particularities of the project in question. Forrest's practice encompasses computer code, woodworking, light pieces, paint and electronics amongst other mediums. The work tends to infuse a playful yet technical approach to ideas and art making. Within this approach, Forrest blends conflicting elements such as hi-tech/lo-tech, mind/computer and organic/inorganic. He explores individual autonomy within society through a combination of DIY and mass manufacturing techniques. These ideas of the individual within a larger framework extends into his research on organic and man-made autonomous entities. Moved into a new studios: Richmond Road Studios Richmond Road Studios is an artist-run studio complex in Fairview, Dublin. Originally named Pigdog Studios and established in 2002, we provide studio spaces to artists working in a range of media including painting, sculpture, installation, printmaking, video and ceramics.
